We’ve done another quick video today, showing some of the advances of ReconstructMe in the past month.

This videos shows how easily it is to model your environment in 3D with ReconstructMe. First we let a friend spin on a swivel armchair while moving the sensor around to change viewpoints. Then we model our office within seconds using ReconstructMe.

The left side shows how the reconstruction grows from a fixed perspective as the camera is moved. The right view shows the reconstruction from the current camera perspective. When entering the pause mode ReconstructMe instantly switches to an interactive 3D preview of the result.

    The music is too pathetic for these kinds of scans. Scanning a messy room may need junky music as well.
    As far as technological advances mentioned above are concerned, they are not too impressive. It probably makes sense to distribute real use-friendly interface software, not command-line raw . And finally figure out how to use color information as Indians from matherix.com did. The information is there, you just need to find the way how to use it.
    You guys are good in making fuss the WEB but you really need to invent something new and something at least partially done.

    the new version looks great… how does the next version differ from the current one, in terms of memory issues, scanning technique and software differences. The point I’m making is, can the current version do much of what we see in the preview, or will the new software version introduce features which aren’t inherent in the current verision?

    I really like the results I was getting in my tests with ReconstructMe but I hope we see a GUI introduced before the beta is done.

      We’d love to have a GUI too and we will, but it’s not gonna happen before the beta is over. We will however have the commercial and the non-commercial version feature aligned, which we think is a totally fair way to support the 3d community, while ensuring further development by people using it commercially (and have quite a couple of commercial license requests)

    Hi Chris,

    ReconstructMe is really coming along nicely. I’ve been following this blog for a while now and I really appreciate the work that you been putting into it. I hope the commercial version is reasonably priced since I want to support your continuing efforts.

      Hi Stephen, thanks for your feedback. We should have the final price and the license ready by mid next week. I think we’ve found a fair price based on responses we had by our users.

    Really really great program. I’ve been using it in conjunction with Blender’s retopology tools, and it’s already sped up my workflow 10X. This tool is incredibly valuable.

    One thing I’d like to see is a brief description of the config file parameters. Like, what is icp_max_iter, and what are the min and max values I can pass to it?

    When do you think we will be able to play with this particular version?
    For the future, some RGB colouring would be great.

      I hope to release this version in a week or two. We’d like to release it with the start of the commercial version, but legal stuff seems to take time, so we might have another non-commercial release before.
